1843 – The first U.S. design of a typewriter that successfully typed was issued a patent to Charles Thurber as a “machine for printing by hand by pressing upon keys which contain the type, called “Thurber’s Patent Printer.”
1873 – 1st kindergarten public school opens in St. Louis. (The word kindergarten comes from German [ˈkɪndɐˌɡaːɐ̯tn̩] or listen, which means literally “garden for the children.
1895 – The large-scale production of electricity using hydropower from the Niagara Falls was commercialised.
1909 – An almost perfectly preserved Cro-Magnon man skeleton was (34,000 years old) discovered by Swiss paleontologist Otto Hauser.
1920 – 1st U.S. roller coaster built.
1938 – A tape recorder was used for the first time in the U.S. to send a radio broadcast.
1947 – Nawab of Bhopal announced accession of the Bhopal state to the Indian Dominion.

1959 – The Morris Mini-Minor was introduced by the British Motor Corporatio n. The car, popularly known as the Mini, became a landmark in automotive design because it was only 10 ft long, yet seated four passengers, and one of the lowest priced cars on the market.
1997 – Employee Provident Fund scheme of 1952 amended to ensure that all PF claims are settled within 30 days from the date of receipt of claims by the PF Commissioner.
2019 – Indonesian President Joko Widodo proposes moving the country’s sinking and over-crowded capital from Jakarta to the island of Borneo (Kalimantan).
Born…. 1910 – Mother Teresa [Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu], Albanian born Indian nun and founder of Missionaries of Charity (Nobel Peace Prize, 1979).
1927 – Bansi Lal, Hindu Jat independence activist, former Chief Minister of Haryana and considered by many to be the architect of modern Haryana. Haryana Ka Loh Purush. Bhiwani born popular politican was also Union Defence Minister in Indira Gandhi Govt. and three times CM of the state.
1956 – Maneka Gandhi, writer, politician. Wife of former PM Indira’s younger son Sanjay Gandhi. Joined Bhatiya Janta Party soon after Sanjay’s death due to differences in family. She was 8 times Member of Parliament from Pilibhit, Sultanpur and Aonla and was Union minister between 2014-19. She is also Animal Rights activist and has won several accolades for thev cause and written several books on nvaried subjects.
1966 – Madhur Bhandarkar, film director, producer and sctreenwriter who makes films on innovative themes or out of Box ideas. His fims Chandni Bar, Page 3, India Lockdown, Babli Bouncer, Traffic Signal, Corporate and Aparajito in Bengali, have been Box office hits. He was awarded
Padma Shri, 8 Filmfare, one National award and several other international film awards/ accolades.
