1878 – The White House, Washington, had its first telephone installed by Alexander Graham Bell himself. Reportedly, the firs
t outgoing call went to Bell, thirteen miles away. President Hayes first words instructed Bell to speak more slowly.
1931 – The Second Round Table Conference that began on Sept. 07 in London ended on Dec. 01. Congr
ess was solely represented by MK Gandhi and Muslim League by Sir Allama Iqbal and Quaid-e-Azam Jinnah, etc. Two committees were setup to carry out the work of the Conference on Federal Structure and Minorities. Gandhi was the member of both committees. He claimed that being the sole representative of the Congress, he represented the whole of India. Quaid-e-Azam replied that Muslims are a separate nation. Sir Shafi demanded that the 14 points of Quaid-e-Azam be incorporated in future Constitution of India (pic credit-pressreader.com).

1965 – Border Security Force (BSF) was organised, which would be armed and trained to manthe International Border with Pakistan. 1988 – Benazir Bhutto named 1st female and twice Prime Minister of a Muslim country, Pakista
n. She was the daughter of former PM Zulfikar ali Bhutto. Was assasinated in a bomb attack in Rawalpindi in 2007. 1990 – British and French workers digging the Channel Tunnel finally met in the service tunnel after knocki

Born….1761 – Marie Tussaud, (Anna Maria) A French architect, sculpturist famous for Wax sculptures. She founded Madame Tussaud’s wax museums, which are now 23 in important places worldover including London, Paris, Berlin, Singapore, New Delhi, Washington, Canberra etc.
1894 – Bhim Sen Sachar, freedom fighter, leader was born in Peshawar (now in Pakistan), became lawyer and Chief Justice of Delhi High Court. Later became Chief Minister of Punjab three times. Also headed the Sachar Committee on study of social, economical and educational status of Muslims in India, in 2005.
1954 – Medha Patkar, social activist. Known for opposing SardarSarovar Dam and Narmada Bachao Andolan, running thru’ Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat.
1980 – Mohammed Kaif, dashing Indian cricketer, alrounder who captained India’ Under-19 team
for World Cup 2000 and won the top trophy. Hevalso played 23 Tests and 126 ODIs for India. In IPL format he played for Kings XI Punjab, Delhi Capitals and Rajasthan Royals. He made it to the national team on the strength of his performances at the Under-19 level, where he captained the national ODI team in the 2005/06 Challenger Trophy in the absence of regular captain Rahul Dravid.

1990 – Vijaya Lakshmi Pandit, Indian diplomat and politician. She was the daughter of first PM Nehru and was appointed as India’s Ambassdor to United Nations after Independence. She also served as President of UNGA in 1953-54 and later became Governor of Maharashtra. Her daughter is famous writer Novelist Nayantara Sehgal, who was awarded Sahitya Akademy award in 1986 for her novel Rich Like Us.
2002 – Abu Abraham, visual artist. Born as Attupurathu Mathew Abraham, wth
pen name Abu, was an Indian cartoonist, journalist, and author. Abu Abraham worked for various national and international newspapers including The Bombay Chronicle, Shankar’s Weekly, Blitz, Tribune, The Observer, The Guardian, and The Indian Express in his over 40 years of career (pics credit- acheltron.com & pressinsyitute.com).
