1601 – Mughal Emperor Akbar captured the formidable Asirgarh Fort after an eight-month siege. Asirgarh one of the strongest forts in India. (Asirgarh Fort is situated in the Satpura Range about 20 km north of the city of Burhanpur, in Madhya Pradesh).

1882 – A patent for telephone switchboard was issued to Leroy Firman of Chicago. He thus devised an arrangement to handle an exchange of a thousand or more subscribers with line status information exchanged between switchmen.

Born…. 1888 – Babu Gulabrai, renowned Hindi writer. He had a distinct style of writing on social, cultural and religiopon issues. His famous wriotings are Shanti Dharma, Maitri Dharma, Subodh Itihaas, Meri Asafaltain, Thalua Club (humour) and edited Sahitya Sandesh magazine.
1917 – MGR (Maruthur Gopalan Ramachandran), South film star, politician and charismatic Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu between 1977 and 1987. He was also the founder of All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhaga (AIADMK). 
1918 – Kamal Amrohi, screenwriter, director, producer. He married legendary actress Meena Kumari. His films are Pukar, Mahal, Razia Sultan, Mughle Azam (1960), Pakeezah, Dil Apna aur Preet Parai etc. He won a Filmfare award.
1945 – Javed Akhtar, acclaimed lyricist, poet and scriptwriter. He paired with Salim Khan in film script writings for about 24 films, like Sarhadi Lootera, Zanjeer, Zamana, Deevar, Sholey, Lakshay, Saagar, Mr. Indi
a etc, and won several awards. Later he separated from Salim and write stories like Deevar, Lagaan, Kal Ho Na Ho, Om Shanti Om, Jindagi Na Milegi Dobara etc. He has won 5 National and 16 Filmfare awards.
RIP…. 2010 – Jyoti Basu, famous Communist -Marxist politician and former West B
engal Chief Minister for about 30 years. He was also offered PM’s post in 1996 but his party (CPM) leader HKS Surjeet refused to accept the offer due to unstable political situation.
2014 – Suchitra Sen, iconic Bengali and Hindi film actress and was called Mahanayika for her realistic
cine performances, as Vishnupriya in Bhagaban Shrikrishna Chaitanya by producer/director DK Bose.. Suchitra Sen acted in Devdas, Saptapadi, Mamata, Sangarika, Agni Pariksha, Bombai ka Babu, Aandhi, Kajori, Atom Bomb, Shap Mochan, Ekti Raat, Bipasha, Devi Chowdhurani, etc. She was awarded 4 times BFJA, a Filmfare and Filmfare Lifetime, Padma Shri and Dadasaheb Phalke award in 2005 but she refused to stay out of public eye. 2022 – Birju Maharaj, an Indian dancer, composer, singer, and exponent of the Lucknow “Kalka-Bindadin” Gharana of Kathak dance in India. His famous film choreogtraphy works were Devdas, Gadar: Ek Prem Katha, Bajirao Mastani, Vishwaroopam etc. He was awa5rded Padma Vibhushan, Kalidas Samman, Sangeet Natak Akademy award and several other accolades.

the Mumbai’s famous Dabbawala system, about 5,000 delivery workers (dabbawalas) deliver around 200,000 home-cooked lunches daily to office workers with incredible 99.9% accuracy, using a unique colour-coding and logistical network.
