399 – Greek Philosopher Socrates sentenced to death
by the city of Athens for corrupting the minds of the youth and of impiety. He propagated moral thoughts and values and was opposed by the Church and punished for not retracting.
1932 – Police o
pened fire on freedom fighters trying to hoist the national flag at Thana
Bhavan in Tarapur, Bihar, killing 34 people.
1942 – Fall of Singapore: During World War II, British forces surrendered to Japan in Singapore, with around 80,000 Indian, UK, and Australian soldiers becoming prisoners of war.
1967 – Elections for the fourth Lok Sabha in India were successfully completed.

1976 – Central Agricultural Research Institute established in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh. It focuses on enhancing productivity through adaptive research, developing region-specific farming technologies, and improving rural livelihood security through Krishi Vigyan Kendras.
1988 – Kiran More stumped Five West Indian batsmen at Chidambaram Stadium in Madras thus creating a world Te
st record. He took 16 catches in Tests against England in 1986, another record.
1998 – Veteran film and TV serials producer, director BR Chpra awarded Dada Saheb Phalke award by President K R Narayanan. Ludhiana born Chopra produced popular films like Dhool Ka
Phool, Insaaf Ka Tarazu, Afsana, Naya Daur, Hamraz, Gumrah, Dhund and many more. His epic TV serial Mahabharat, Vishnupuran were grand successes and commanded global viewership.
1998 – Tennis duo Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupati were ranked No. 2 when they won Dubai Open. Together the pair rerached Grand Slam Double Finals four times in 1999. They won Wimbledon Championship together in 1999. Paes is the only won Doubles in 2015and 2016 Roland Garos and the only played to have won 3 Doubles titles in 3 different decaeds. 2001 – India entered an agreement with Russia for the purchase of T-90 tanks.
2003 – An estimated 6-11 million people around the world take to the streets to protest against war with Iraq.

2010 – Armed Maoists attacked a paramilitary camp in Silda, West Bengal, killing 24 jawans.
2017 – The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) made history by successfully launching 104 satellites in a single mission using the PSLV-C37 rocket.
2018 – First known case of transgender woman breastfeeding reported in “Transgender Health Journal” in the US.
2023 – Scientists warn the Thwaites Glacier, the so-called “Doomsday Glacier” and the size of Florida, is weakening threatening a global sea level rise of 1.6 metres. Born…. 1947 – Randhir Kapoor, film actor, producer, and director. Eldest son of legendary actor, director and producer Raj Kapoor, his brothers Rajiv and Rishi Kapoor were also popular actor. He married another famous actress Babita and their daughter Kareen, Karishma were also succe
ssful film actors. Randhir was known for roles his in Jeet, Hamrahi, Lafange, Das Lakh, Ram Teri Ganga Maili, Henna, Pionga Pandit, Rampur Ka Lakshman, Jawani Deevani, Haath Ki Safai, Chacha Bhateeja, Mama Bhanja, Biwi O Biwi, Kal aaj Aur Kal, Houseful-1, – 2 etc. He also won a Filmare award for direction of film Henna.

1964 – Ashutosh Gowariker, popular Bollywood screenwriter, actor, director and producer. He’s known for Lagaan, Jodha Akbar, Swades, Mohen Jo Daro etc. He has won 5 Filmfare, Akademy and other accolades.

RIP…. 1869 – Mirza “”Galib”” Asad Ullah Beg Khan, legendary Arabic and Urdu Shayar/poet, Ghazal writer. He was one of the Courtesan (Darbari) of last Mughal emperor Bahadur Shah Zafar.
1948 – Famous poet Subhadra Kumari Chauhan, author of the poem “Jhansi Ki Rani”.

2022 – Bappi Lahiri, the legendary singer and composer who popularised disco music in India.
