1763 – Murshidabad was captured by the East India Company under Major Adams for the second time, and thery made Mir Jaffar Ali, the king under a deal for betraying his king Siraj-ud-Daulah in the Battle of Plassey.
1812 – Napoleon’s Grand Army invades westrern parts of Russia. It proved as a big disaster for his efforts to capture Russia, due to long wintry desert region of Siberia and his army felt fatigue, many died and others retaracted back to Europe.
1873 – Samuel Clemens (the author known as Mark Twain) received a U.S. patent for a self-pasting Scrapbook. Earlier in 1871, Samuel Clemens received his first patent
for “An Improvement in Adjustable and Detachable Garment Straps”.
1930 – The first radar detection of aircraft took place (in US)
1946 – Congress party rejects British plan for provisional govt. pending constitution in New Delhi. After further parleys Independent Govt. of India took oath on thye modnight of Agusust 14-15, 1947.

1961 – India’s first Supersonic fighter HF-24 Marut added to the IAF’s air armour. It was manufactured at Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd. by German engineer Kurt Tank and went trial flight on June 17, 1961.
1963 – The first demonstration of a home video recorder was made at the BBC News Studios in London.
1974 – India all out for 42 in Lord’s Test cricket in 77 mins. With scores at England (629) and India (302 and 42 in 2
innings), it was a 3.-0 Whitewash for India. Captain Ajit Wadekar lost his captaincy and faded in cricketing career. In the 2nd India innings only Eknath Solkar could score 16* while other batsmen could not reach double figures.
1986 – Government announced that unmarried mothers under its employment would also get maternity leave.
1989 – The majority of opposition members resigned from the Lok Sabha over the issue of the CAG report on the Bofors gun deal.
1990 – Defence scientists successfully test fired country’s first
third generation anti-tank missile ‘NAG’. It’s a guided missile with an operational range of 500 m to 20 km depending on variant. It has a single-shot hit probability of 90% and a ten-years maintenance-free shelf life. The NAG missile has five variants. (pic credit-MoD)
1991 – The first-ever BJP ministry led by Kalyan Singh takes over in UP. It was during his reign that the controversial Babri masjid structure was demolished by Kar Sewaks in Ayodhya, leading to the construction of Ram Lalla temple in Ayodhya in 2019-24.. His govt. was dismissed by the Central Govt. of PV Narasimha Rao.
2018 – Women drive for the first time in Saudi Arabia after ban is lifted.
Born….1885 – Master Tara Singh, freedom fighter and leader of Akali Dal. H
e recruited Sikhs to join the army during the First World War. As a result of this, the British Government had given separate communal representation to Sikhs like Muslims in the ‘India Act’ of 1919.
1908 – Guru Gopinath, (Perumanoor Gopinathan Pillai), Kerala born, renowned Indian classical dancer and teacher. Popular Ram Lila of Delhi was choreographed and designed by him. He also got huge appreciation from Gutru RN Tagore. (pic credot-narthakionline.com).
1962 – Gautam Shantilal Adani, an Indian billionaire industrialist, and philanthropist
who is the chairman and founder of the Adani Group, the president of the Adani Foundation. He founded The Adani Group in 1988 and diversified his business into resources, logistics, energy, agriculture, defense, and aerospace, amongst others.

80 – Varahagiri Venkata Giri, Fourth President of India. He faught as independent candidate in 1969 against official Congress candidate Neelam Sajiva Reddy. PM Indira Gandhi supportede him, calling it a Vote of Concience.

You may have known…. 1. Sushruta is the father of surgery. 2600 years ago he and health scientists of his time conducted surgeries like cesareans, cataract, fractures and urinary stones. Usage of anaesthesia was well known in ancient India.
