1840 – The first U.S. photographic patent was issued to Alexander S. Wolcott of New York City.

847 – Robert W. Thomson of Adelphi, Middlesex, England was issued the first U.S. patent for Rubber tyres (pic credit-tr.pinterest.com).
1879 – The first U.S. patent for an automobile was filed by George Baldwin Selden of Rochester, N.Y. It was issued almost two decades later, on 5 Nov 1898 for a unique combination of an internal combustion engine and a road vehicle.

ca-Cola, the soft drink, was first sold to the public at the soda fountain in Jacob’s Pharmacy in Atlanta, Georgia. “Coca-Cola” letters as the famous logo. 1901 – According to the British appointed commission 1,250,000 Indians have died after a severe drought, lasting since 1899.

1933 – Congress top leader MK Gandhi begins a 21-day fast of self-purification and launched a one-year campaign to help the Harijan movement.
1945 – World War II ended. The day is celebrated as VE – Victory Day in Europe.
1954 – Indian Government decided to integrate Chandranagar into West Bengal, which was under the rule of the French.

declares: ‘Dalai Lama will not be allowed to campaign for Tibetan independence in India. India wanted to maintain friendly relations with Communist China.’
1962 – The era of the trolleybus in London ended.

1996 – The governing Congress Party is routed in the Lok Sabha elections, that have left no party with a clear mandate to govern.
1997 – India decides to import currency notes for the first time.
2011 – A near riot breaks out at the Beijing Apple Store as the Apple iPad2 goes on sale in the People’s Republic of China.
2014 – Researchers have developed synthetic nucleobases, the molecules that form the backbone of DNA; organisms successfully replicated the synthetic bases, implying that creation of new life forms with these additional bases may be possible in the future.

Born….1906 – General PN Thapar, 5th Army Chief from May 08, 1961 to Nov. 19, 1962 . He was the father of noted journalist Karan Thapar and uncle of historian Romilla Thapar. He is believed to be responsible of India’s debacle in 1

1916 – Swami Chinmayananda Saraswati, a Hindu spiritual leader and a teacher who inspired the formation
of the Chinmaya Mission to spread the knowledge of Advaita Vedanta, the non-dual system of thought found in the Upanishads, which enhance the philosophical teachings of the Vedas. Chinmayananda authored 95 publications, including commentaries on the major Upanishads and Bhagavad Gita.
1953 – Remo Fernandes, (Luís Remo de Maria Bernardo Fernandes) is an Indian-Portuguese singer and musician. Known as a pioneer of Indian pop music, he performs pop, rock, Indian fusion, and is also a film playback singer. He did music for films The Super Khiladi, Bhagam Bhag, Daud, Auzaar, Trikal, Jalwa etc. He performed a welcome song Hello Rajiv Gandhi, when Rajiv visited Goa as PM in 1986. He has won several awards and honours like Padma Shri in 2007, Press Critics awards, Karamvir Puruskar and 2nd Prize in Dresden International Song Competitin in 1986.
