1762-69 – Nepal establishes itself as a Hindu Rashtra by King Prithvi Narayan Shah between 1762-68 but declares as a Constitutional Hindu Monarchy in 1960s (pic credit-Wikipedia).
1851 – The first U.S. patent for brass spinning was issued to H.W. Hayden in Connecticut. His invention was for machinery that could make kettles and similar articles from discs of metal. A disc was mounted in a chuck that rotated at a uniform speed. A tool then pressed against the metal and shaped it to a die.
1884 – The first U.S. patent was issued for an automatic liquid vending machine to William H. Fruen. When a coin was inserted in a slot, a measured quantity of liquid was released from a reservoir.
1935 – The use of eye prints – the pattern of capillaries in the retina – was described in an article in Time magazine as a new scientific method for identification because an individual’s eye pattern is as unique as fingerprints.

1951 – Synthetic diamonds were produced at General Electric Research Laboratories by Prof. H. Tracy Hall.
1971 – India’s army occupies Dacca, West Pakistani troops surrender.
1971 – Bangladesh (East Pakistan) declares independence from Pakistan.
1971 – Vijay Diwas (Victory Day): East Pakistan’s independence (as Bangladesh) from Pakistan is recognized internationally after India’s army occupies Dacca, and 93,000 West Pakistani troops surrender.
1978 – Ronald Reagan denounces President Jimmy Carter’s recognition of People’s Republic of China.
1992 – The Parliament adopts resolution condemning the demolition of the mosque at Ayodhya and Centre appoints a one-man judicial commission to enquire into the Ayodhya incidents.
2012 – A gang rape of a woman (Nirbhay) on a bus in Delhi that resulted in her death leads to national and international outrage.
2013 – After years of receding, scientists report that the Arctic sea ice has rebounded in extent and volume.
2020 – Nine-year-old girl who died of an asthma attack in 2013 becomes first person in the world to officially have air pollution listed as cause of death.
