1615 – The British East India Company was officially granted permission by the Mughal emperor Jahangir to establish a trading factory in Surat. This event marked the beginning of British economic and later political influence in India, which ultimately led to colonial rule.
1768 – William Cookworthy obtained a British patent for his process to take local china clay and manufacture fine white porcelain. He could thus produce hard paste porcelain to compete in quality as finished goods imported from China.
1769 – To establish the English Mill’s Cloth companies, East Indian Company imposed various restrictions on weavers of Bengal to destroy the Muslim and textile industry in Bengal , which was meant to destroy the cotton and jute based Indian cloth- Khaddar and ‘Malmal‘ industry.
1901 – An exhibition of seventy-one Vincent van Gogh paintings in Paris, 11 years after his death, creates a sensation (pic credit-etsy.com).
1955 – Indian Standard’s Institute started working to control the quality of Indian products and the ISI mark was issued to quality products.

959 – The Buddhist religious Dalai Lama left his capital Lhasa (Tibet) in the guise of a soldier among crowds due to occupation of Tibet by the Chinese armies and prosecution of local Tibetans. He reached Indian border on March 28 and was given assylum in India with his office at Dharamshala (H.P.)
1989 – India officially launched its Advanced Technology Vessel (ATV) pro gramme, which later resulte
d in the development of INS Arihant, India’s first indigenous nuclear-powered submarine. This project marked a significant milestone in India’s defense capabilities.
1991 – India’s first automated satellite IRS-IA became a successful test afte

Born….1912- Manohar Aich. Famous Indian bodybuildder, trainer and politician. He won Mr. Univ
erse Title in 1952 at NABBA Universe Championships. Born in Comilla (now in Bangladesh), He contested election in 1991 on BJP ticket but got 3rd position. He lived 104 years and died on June 5, 1916.
1962 – Kalpana Chawla. Karnal (India) born American space voyager. She undertook two space voyages in Shuttle Columbia in 1997 and 2003. She died on Feb. 03, 2003 alongwith 6 US astronaughts as her shuttle caught fire while returning back to the earth.. She was honoured by India
n govt by naming MetSat-1 as Kalpana-1 Mission and Congressional Space Medal of Honour by US President George Bush.
1963- Jaggesh (Eshwar Gowda), was a famous Kannada comedy actor. singer, director, producer and politician. He became famous thru’ film Navarasa Nayaka, Threenetra, Narasimha,
Raghvendra Stores and other film comedy roles. He was elected to Rajya Sabha in 2022 and is a BJP spokesman. 1990 – Saina Nehwal. One of the top Indian shuttlers, who became World No. 1 in 20145. she has won 24 major global Badminton titles including a Bronze in 2012 London Olympics, Commonwaelth and led team to win Uber Cup title. She has been awardede Arjuna Award, Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna and Padma Bhushan.
RIP…. 1989 – Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna, president of Lok Dal (B), UP Chief Minister and former Union Minister in Indira Gandhi and Morarji Desai goverments. He resigned Congress after emergency in 1977, formed CFD and joined Janta Party. His son Vijay Bahuguna was a former High Court justice, joined BJP and became the 6th CM of Uttrakhand.
You may have known…. Though the company Havell’s was bought for just 10 lakh Rupees a long time ago and is now a
multi-billion electrical goods company, it’s an Indian company and is still named after its original owner, Haveli Ram Gupta.
