You may have known…. The term Karwa Chauth means “Karwa – earthen pot,” and “Chauth,” which means “the fourth.” It is a North Indian festival celebrating the bond between husband and wife, observed by married women who fast for their husbands’ longevity and prosperity. During this festival, Hindu married women observe rigorous fast from dawn till the moonrise. The festival’s origin is attributed to several Hindu legends, including the story of Karva, a devoted wife who saved her husband
from a crocodile by invoking the God of death, and Queen Veeravati, whose devotion brought her husband back to life after he was mistakenly believed to have died. (pic credit-pngfree.com). {Compiled by Lt. Gen. (R) Raj Kadyan}
