1889 – The cabaret Moulin Rogue opens in Palace Blanche, Paris.

1973 – Yom Kippur War begins as Syria & Egypt attack Israel.

1983 – Pesident’s rule was imposed in the state of Punjab.
1985 – PT Usha sets record for 400m (Women) in 51.61 seconds at Canberra .

2010 – Software engineers  Kevin Systrom (U.S.)  and Mike Krieger (Brazilian)   launch the social media app Instagram (pic credit-standard.co.uk).

Born…. 1946 – Vinod Khanna, great  powerful Bollywood actor. Peshawar (now Pakistan) born  actor, director,  producer and politician  had been active in cine world between 1968 and 2015 and appeared in over 140 films debuting from Man nKa Meet to Sacchas Jhootha,  Aan Milo Sajna, Mere Apne, Purab Aur Pachhim, Mera Gaon Mera Desh, Do Yaar, Haath Ki Safai, Parvarsish, Lahu Ke do Rang,  Rajput,  Burning Train, Qurbaani,  Chandni, Kranti  Dabangg etc. He was attracted to Spirituality and worked in Acharya Rajneesh  ‘Osho’ Ashrams between 1975 and 1985.  He won 2 Filmfare awards, StarDust, Zee Cine  and several others. He also  elected to Lok sabha from  Gurdaspur thrice and became Unio Minister for  External Affairs, and Culture from 2002-04.   in He was honoured with Dadasahreb Phalke award in 2017.

RIP…. 1858 – Nanasaheb Peshwa, a  prominent  revolutionary of  India’s first war of Independence 1850-57.

1963 – Baba Kharak Singh, Sialkot born (now Pakistan),  freedom fighter and grand old man of Punjab. He was also a playwrite, co-founder of Shirmani Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee, Sikh Education  Committee and  Central Sikh League to gather Sikhs against English rule.

1974 – Vengalil Krishnan Krishna Menon, freedom fighter, barrister, leader, politician, nationalist and member of the Lok Sabha. He had resigned as the Defence Minister soon after the Chinese aggression of 1962 after he was accused of being soft to Chinese and opposed to India using Air Force in Sino-India war resulting in Indian defeat.

You may have known…. In India, female longevity is higher than male longevity. As of 2023, the life expectancy at birth was about 70.5 years for males and 73.6 years for females. This trend of women living longer holds true across India, though the gap varies by state and has increased over time (pic credit-adzuna.co.za).
