You may have known…. Indians invented trigonometry, algebra, calculus. (A landmark in Indian mathematics was the development of the series expansions for trigonometric functions (sine, cosine, and arc, tangent) by mathematicians like Aryabhatta in 6th century and Bhaskara II , who wrote Sidhant Shiromani , in the Kerala school in the 12-15th century CE. Their remarkable work, completed two centuries before the invention of calculus
in Europe, provided what is now considered the first example of a power series (apart from geometric series). However, they did not formulate a systematic theory of differentiation and integration, nor is there any direct evidence of their results being transmitted outside
Kerala and get worldwide recognition, (as India then got socially and administratively under seige and turmoil). {Compiled by Lt. Gen. (R) Raj Kadyan}
