1839 – Tea from India first arrives in UK.

1863: The world’s first underground railway, the Metropolitan line, opened in London.

1920 – India became member of League of Nations.

1946 – The first General Assembly of the United Nations convened in London, with India as one of the 51 founding nations.

1966 – The Tashkent Declaration was signed by India and Pakistan, a peace agreement following the 1965 Indo-Pakistani War, brokered by the Soviet Union. Lal Bahadur Shatri and General Ayub Khan signed the document.

1975 – The first World Hindi Conference was held in Nagpur, leading to January 10th being designated as World Hindi Day –Vishwa Hindi Diwas,  to promote the

language globally.

1975 – India accords recognition to the Palestine Liberation Organization.

1998 – Geet Sethi retains National billiards title in Calcutta.

2019 – Oceans warming faster than previous thought due to fossil fuel burning, according to data published in journal “Science”.

2020 – Supreme Court asked the J&K administration to review restrictions post-Article 370 changes.

Born…. 1940 – K. J. Yesudas, Renowned Indian classical musician and multi-lingual playback singer. ‘Gori Tera Gaon Bada Pyara’ and ‘Ka Karoon Sajani Aaye Na Balam’ are among his popular Hindi songs.

1974 – Hrithik Roshan, film actor.

RIP….1996 – Fearless Nadia, Iconic stuntwoman and actress of early Indian cinema.

You may have known….

Though ancient Egyptians didn’t literally worship cats, they did see them and other animals as symbols of the gods’ divine qualities. They admired felines to such an extent that their reverence. Their devotion was so fierce, in fact, that they shaved their eyebrows when their own cats died — the beginning of a mourning period that didn’t end until their eyebrows grew back.
