1774 – Chamaraja Wadeyar, the  21st king of Mysore ewho ruled for 20 years  from Feb. 28, 1774 to April 17, 1796.

1930 – Sir C V Raman. indian physicist was awarded Nobel Prize for Physics for  his discovery called Raman Effect,  It establishes that Rays of Light are scattered  around when passed through any material.

1935 – Nylon was discovered by Dr. Wallace H. Carothers of DuPont.

1953 – DNA structure discovered by James Watson alongwith  Francis Crick. The due were given Nobel Prize in Medicine in 1962 alongwith  a third scientist Maurice H F Wilkins. ( pic credit-animalia-life-club.com)

1996 – In the Jain hawala case, non bailable warrants of arrest issued against 10 politicians.

2014 – Indian automaker Mahindra & Mahindra plans selling the e2o, an electric car, in Bhutan for about $11,300. Reports say  vehicle exhaust is causing air pollution problems in Bhutan that threaten the country’s tourist-dependent economy.

2021 – Myanmar security forces open fire on protests around the country, killing at least 18, in bloodiest day since the military coup.

Born:  1897- K M Cheriasn. Kerala veteran journalist, editor of Malayala Manorama. During bhis times the  publication became No. 1 in Malayali, No. 4 in India and No. 11 world over.

1909 – Jayant Desai. Vetrewran Indian  film director, producer who is known for Do Badmash,  Char Chakram , Bhutio Mahal,  Toofan Mail, Tansen, Har Har Mahadev, Amber,  Tadbir etc. He directed  about 75 films and won several awards.

RIP….1936 – Kamla Nehru, wife of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. She is believed to have  died due to tuberculosis.

1963 – Dr. Rajendra Prasad, the first President of India. He was a lawyer, journalist and freedom fighter and scholar  statesman. He headed the Contituent Assembly of India between 1946-50. Dr. Prasad was awarded Bharat Ratna in 1962.

1988 – Jaydev,  legendary  music director.Born in Nairobi (Kenya)   to Indian parents,  he shifted to Ludhiana,  India. He learnt music from Prof. Barkat Rai and Ali Akbar Khan. He composed melodious music for films Ham  Dono, Reshma aur Shera,  Prem Parbat  Gharaunda  and  many more. He won National  Film  award  3 times, Filmfare once  and  Kalakar awards.

You may have known….  In the second five-year plan emphasis was laid on development of basic and heavy industries. It also defined the key-role which the public sector was to play in the economic development of the country.
