Born…. 1903 – Swami Ramanand Tirth, freedom fighter, social activist and educationist. Born as Vyenkatesh Bhagvanrao Khedgikar. he led his volunteers to free Hyderabad riyasat from Osman Ali Khan’s rule, in 1948. Dr. PV Narasimha Rao established a memorial in Hyderabad and Swami Ramanand Tirath University was established in Naded in 1994, having 172 colleges in Marathwada region.
RIP…. 1923 – Kadambini Bose Ganguly from Bhagalpur was the first woman graduate and a physician in India (pic credit-trendynews.com).
You may have known…. The exact total number of women who have committed Sati throughout history is unknown, but there were 28 officially reported cases between 1943 and 1987 in India. The last reported case was that of 18-year-old Roop Kanwar in September 1987, which sparked widespread condemnation and led to the Indian government enacting the Commission of Sati (Prevention) Act, 1987, to ban the practice.
