1965 – Establishment of the Museum of Guiding Puppets by cartoonist K. Shankar Pillai in Delhi, called Nehru Museum. Shankar Pillai was known as Father of Political  Cartooning in India. He also started Shankar’s Weekly and India’s Punch  in 1948, magazines on political satire and commentary.  (pics credit-toonsmag.com and heritagelab.in).

1974 – India, Pakistan decide to end the nine-year trade ban, started during 1965 Indo-Pak War.

2000 – Priyanka Chopra wins the Miss World title at an age of 18 and then started her modelling and filmy career winning her many national and international   awards. (pic cfredit-femina.com)

Born.… 1858 – Sir Jagadis Chandra Bose, Indian physicist and plant physiologist who investigated the properties of very short radio waves, wireless telegraphy, and radiation-induced fatigue in inorganic materials.

1931 – Romila Thapar, a prominent historian. She is also Professor of Ancient History, Emeritta at Jawaharlal Nehru University in Delhi.  She has received several honours and degrees from western universities on her writings on Indian history but has been criticised  by many present  historians  for adding  many major distortions and  anti-Sanatan &  Hindu  beliefs and  granths (pic credit-scroll.in). 

1874 – Winston Churchill, soldier, author and politician. He  was the PM of Britain between 1941-45 and 1951-55. He was MP from 14900 to 164 except for 2 years (1922-24)

1936 – Sudha Malhotra, Indian actor,  Bhajan, Ghazals  and  film playback   singer.  Popular bhajans like Darshan Do Ghanshyam, Maik Tere Jehan mein etc. Sang for films Udan Khatola,  Dhool Ka Phool, Aarjoo, Barsaat Ki Raat, Ab Dilli Door Nahin, Didi, Dekh Kabira Roya etcShe was awarded Padam Shri in 2013. Born as Kalaivani in Vellore (Madras Presidency, she is called Meera of Modern India for her  Bhajan singing in several languages viz., Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Marathi,  Gujarati, Punjabi, Haryanvi,  Bengali,  Assamese, Hindi, Sanskrit, Kashmiri, Urdu etc.  for over two decades. She sang Bhajans, Carnatic, Thumri,  Ghazals and Hindi film songs. Her songs for Guddi, Ek Muthi Assamaan,  and many South Indian films made her  a heart-throb of music lovers. She was honoured with Padma Bhushan (2023), 3 National Film awards,  Tansen Award, 3 Filmfare awards and  apart from Filmfare Lifetime Achievement  award in 2012 and various State awards  (pic credit-rediff.com).

1962 – Irrfan Khan, Bollywood actor, who  also acted in British and American films like The warrior. Known for roles in Piku, Life of Pi,  Jurassic Wold, Slumdog Millionaire,  Qarib Qarib Single, Blackmail,  Angrezi Medium,  Hindi  Medium, Maqbool etc.  He won 6 Filmfare, 1 National Film award, PGA Emerican  and  several accolades. He died of Colon Cancer in 2020.

RIP….2012 – Inder Kumar Gujral, a diplomat  who served as Ambassador in USSR, a  politician-Member of CPI and Congress Party. Born in Sohawa tehsil of pre-Partition  Punjab (now in Pakistan) became the country’s 12th Prime Minister from  April 1997 to March 1998,  after the fall of short-lived  Deve Gawda govt. and followed by   another 13 day Atal Bihatri Vajpayee Govt.  He also served as Finance and External Affairs Minister for sometime.

You may have known…. According to a 2025 Global Hunger Index report, about 12.0% of the Indian population is undernourished, reflecting insufficient caloric intake. The issue extends beyond just calories to a lack of quality nutrition.
