1873 – Rival cities of Buda and Pest across river Danube, unite to form the capital Budapest of Hung
ary. The twin cities history goes back to years 14 BC, later occupiesd by Romans in 896 AD. Buda became capital of Kingdom of Hungary in 1361. Later conquered by Ottoman Empire (Turkish) and occupied until 1686, defeated by Hubsburgs, who built a chain bridge on river Danube and unted Buda and Pest to form capital Budapest.
1917 – Use of first tank battle (Britain breaks through German lines).
1955 –

Born…. 1750 – Tipu Sultan (Fateh Ali Sahab Tipu) , was the sultan of Mysore (1782-99) who continued fighting against Marathas, Malabar and Sir rulers and negotiating truces with British in 1784-89. Used rocket artillery and won Carnatic and Srirangapatnam, Travancore, Cochin etc. from Dutch controls. Was called Tiger of Mysore for his bravery and winning wars of South.
1942 – US President Joe Biden turns 82 years, becoming first octogenarian to serve in country’s
highest office. Served a Democratic Party Senator from Delaware between 1973-2009 and became VP under Barack Obama from 2009-17. Became 46th President in 2021.
1946 – Judy Woodruff -American TV broadcaster. Managing Editor of PBS NewsHour up to end 2022.
1956 – Bo Derek (Mary Cathleen Collins) is an American actress who
acted in about 15 films from childhood, was nominated for Golden Globe award in 1980 (pic credit-TMDB).
1962 – Raj Kumar Hirani, Bollywood filmmaker. Is referred as one of the most successful filmmakers of Indian cinema for having produced/directed new wave movies like Munna Bhai M.B.B.S., PK, Sanju, 3idiots, Lage Raho Munnabhai, Ferrari Ki Sawari, Saala Khadoos, Dunki etc., won 4 National Film and11 Filmfare awards.
1969 – Shilpa
Shirodhkar, model and Bollywood actor, known for films like Khuda Gawah, Hum, Pehchan, Bhrashtachar, Bewafa Sanam, Kishen Kanhaiya, Ankhen, Raghuvir, Gopi Kishen etc. She won a Filmfare, some nominations and Zee Rishta award for her roles.

1910 – Leo Tolstoy. Legendary Russian novelist. One of the greatest writers who wrote epics War and Peace, Anna Karenina, Childhood, What Men Live By, After the Ball, Hasdji Mur
at, The Lion And The Dog etc. He was nominated to Nobel Prize in 1902, 1903, 1904, 1905 and 1906 but was never given the award.
