1915 – First Tank produced rolled out of England, nicknamed ‘Little Willie’. Little Willie was far from an overnight success. It weighed 14 tons, got stuck in trenches and crawled over rough terrain at only two miles per hour

1941 – All Jews over age 6 in German territories were ordered to wear a Star by Hitler’s armies.
1947 – The aircraft-carrier Midway became the first U.S. vessel from which a long-range rocket was launched. Accompanied by scientific observers, a captured German V-2 rocket was fired from the flight deck from a position at sea several hundred miles of the east coast of the U.S. the rocket travelled about 6 miles. A ship launch test was only conducted once.
1965 – Beginning of the Indo-Pakistani War. (It was a culmination of skirmishes that took place from April 1965 to September 1965 between Pakistan and India. The conflict began following Pakistan’s Operation Gibraltar, which was designed to infiltrate forces into Jammu and Kashmir to precipitate an insurgency against Indian rule. India retaliated by launching a full-scale military attack on West Pakistan; called Operation Grand Slam. The seventeen-day war witnessed the largest engagement of armored vehicles and the largest tank battle since World War II). Many of America build Patten tanks were blasted by Indian army.

1999 – Vyjayanthimala Bali, former Congress (I) MP, joins the BJP. She is the legendary Bollywood, Tamil, Telugu actress, known for films like Devdas, Sangam, Naya Daur, Ganga Jamuna, Madhumati etc. and a proficient Bharatnatyam dancer.

Born…. 1889 – Sarat Chandra Bose, freedo
m fighter, journalist and leader. Elder brother of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, he was also Member of AICC from 1936-47 and Member Interim Govt. of India 1946-47. He led Netaji’s Forward Block and Socialist Republican Party later. Bose died on Feb. 20, 1950 at a young age of 60.
1929 – Yash Johar, popular and successful film producer, director known for films Agn
eepath, Kabhie Khushi Kabhi Gham, Kal Ho Na Ho, etc. under his production house Dharma Productions. His son Karan Johar is a well-knkown journalist, TV show ‘Koffee With Karan’ presenter.
1949 – Rakesh Roshan, veteran film actor and producer/director is the son of famous musician Roshan known for ever-green tunes of Devar, Barsaat Ki Raat, Aarti, Chitralekha etc.. Rakesh Roshan acted in films like Khudgarz, Khoon Bhari Maang, Kishan Kanhaiya, Khoobsoorat, Ankhon Ankhon Mein, Karan-Arjun, Kaamchor etc. He lanched his son Hrithik thru’ Kaho Na Pyaar Hai which was a grand success for exotic story, music and locations. Later Koi Mil Gaya and Krish series followed good success. He has won several National Film, Filmfare and IIFA, Zee Cine awards etc.
RIP…. 1970 – Arthur William Sidney Herrington, American engineer and manufacturer who developed a series of military vehicles, the best known of which was the World War II jeep.
1972 – Allauddin Khan, famous Sarod player. His disciples include Pt. Ravi Shankar, son Ali Akbar Khan, Panna Lal Ghosh and many more. He was awarded Padma Vibhushan, Sangeet Natak Akademy Fellowship.
You may have known…. The first AIDS case was detected in India in 1986. In 2010, 1.4 to 1.6 million Indians were living with HIV virus. The figures have been declining. The states with high HIV prevalence rates include Manipur (1.40%), Andhra Pradesh (0.90%), Mizoram (0.81%), Nagaland (0.78%), Karnataka (0.63%)
