2000 – Ram Vilas Paswan, Union Communications Minister, launches his political outfit ‘Lok Janashakti Party’ at a rally in New Delhi.

2017 – Supreme Court of India rejects appeal to block global release of controversial film “Padmavati”.

2023 – 41 Indian construction workers are successfully rescued after 41 days trapped in a collapsed tunnel in Uttarakhand.

Born……..1985 – Esha Gupta, model. and Bollywood  actor, who won Femina Miss India award in 2007 and participted in international  contests, also  known for roles in Jannat 2, Devi , Commando, Badshaho, Paltan, Total Dhamaal etc. She has won 2 StarDust,  Screen and  Big Screen Entertainment awards (pic credit-uniquenewsonline.com).

1986 – Prateik Babbar, son of veteran Bollywood  actor Raj Babbar.  Model and actor, known for roles in Ek Deewana Tha, Issac, India Lockdown, Chhchore, Dhobi Ghat etc. Has won 3 Filmfare awards for debut and support roles. and a StarDust  award.,

1988 – Yami Gautam, model and Bollywood actor, who made debut in off-beat movie with bold theme, Vicky Doctor and  won  viewers’ hearts and  Zee Cine Debutant awards. She has acted in TV serials Chand Ke Us Paar Chali, Yeh Pyaar Na Hoga Kam, and films  Dasvi,  OMG,  Badlapur, Kaabi, A Thursday, Lost, Article370, Chor Nikal ke Bhaga   etc. She has been nominated to several awards and won many including IIFA, Screen, Times of India  Film awards etc.

1997-Taniya Bhatia. Chandigarh born cricketer, wicketkeeper of Indian women’s team. She was one of the Five Breakout cricketers by  ICC in 2018 (pic credit-healthycelebs.com).

RIP…. 1890 – Jyotiba Phule, social reformer and the founder of the Satyashodhak Samaj.

1893 – Sir Alexander Cunningham, British army officer and archaeologist who excavated many sites in India, including Sarnath and Sanchi. He retired (1861) as a major general after 30 years of service with the Bengal Engineers and then was the first director of the Indian Archaeological Survey (pic credit-theprint.in).

1993 – Jehangir Ratanji Dadabhoy (JRD) Tata was an Indian industrialist and aviator who was born to a French mother and grew up in France. Meeting pioneer Louis Blériot sparked his aviation interest. In 1925, moved to India to join the Tata Group family business, established by his great-grandfather in 1868. Over the next years, he established Tata Airmail which became Tata Airlines and then Air India.                                                                                              Titbits…. 1930 – After a sandstorm in Morocco, a mud rain fell in Paris and all over northern France. Yellow sand fell in Spain.

2.  According to the Planning Commission’s report, 21.9% of India’s population lived below the national poverty line in 2011-12, which equates to about 269 million people. The poverty rate was 25.7% in rural areas and 13.7% in urban areas in  2011-12.
