1956 – The Act that made possible the modern interstate highway system in the U.S. was signed by President Dwight D. Eisenhower. Eisenhower had seen the speed and efficiency in moving troops and equipment on the four-lane autobahns in Germany during WW II.

1916 – Boeing aircraft flies for 1st time.

1998 -Vajpayee  Government decides to grant full statehood for Delhi and create three new States namely Uttaranchal, Vananchal and Chattisgarh.

1999 – An Indian High Commissioner member N. R. Doraiswamy is beaten up by Pakistani intelligence operatives.

2008 – Thomas Beatie, the world’s first pregnant man,  gives birth to a daughter (pic credit-imdb.com).

2014 – Islamic State leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi announces establishment of worldwide “caliphate” at the Great Mosque of al-Nuri in Mosul, Iraq.

2015 – Beijing Times reports 30% of the Great Wall of China has disappeared due to natural forces and stealing of bricks.

Born:  1936 – Shail Chaturvedi. Famous Hindi satirist, stand-up  comedian, poet, humour  actor of 1970-80s era.  He was a popular figure in Kavi Sammelans, Mushairas etc.  Acted in Uphaar, Chittchor, Chameli ki Shadi, Sharmaji Hindi serial etc. 

1946 – Ram Gopal Yadav. Younger brother of former UP Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav. Represented Samajwadi Party in Rajya Sabha 5 times and  Sambhal in Lok Sabha once.

1966 – Upasana Singh. Veteran Punjabi and  Hindi comedy actor. She worked in Punjabi and Bollywood  films like Disco Singh,  Jatt & Juliet,  Sarfarosh, Comedy With Kapil show,  Son Pari, Jija Ji Chhat Par Hain,  Jawani Jindabad etc.

1978 – Nicole Scherzinger, American singer, songwriter, solo dancer and actor. She also modelled for X-Factor Brand UK.

1982 – Colin Jost, an American comedian, actor, writer and sketch series maker of NBC USA.

RIP…. 1533 – Chaitanya Maha Prabhu, Vaishnav Sant. Most respected  follower of Bhagwan Krishna in Bengal and north India during 16th century and popular till date. He is considered an Avatar of Sri Krishna.

1873 – Micheal Madhusudan Dutta, first Bengali modern poet, considered to be the pioneer of Bengali literature.
