1910 – China ends Slavery in the last years of Qing Empire (1616 – 1911) led by King Zhou Fu, a law was passed in his Court on Jan. 30 and implemented on March 10, though it continued later upto 1949

1922 – Mahatma Gandhi was arrested in Ahmedabad on charges of sedition (treason) against the British government. He was later sentenced to six years in prison.

1939 – 17 villages damaged by hailstones in Hyderabad.

2023 – Xi Jinping appointed to a historic third term as President of China (previously restricted to two
terms).
Born….1926 – Dilbagh Singh, Air Chief Marshal, former Chief of Air Staff of Indian Air Force (1981-84). The 2nd Sikh Air Chief, the first being Air Chief Marshal Arjan Singh. Dilbagh Singh was later appointed as India’s Ambassador to Brazil.
1932 – Prof. UR Rao (Udupi Ramachandra Rao), renowned space scientist and former ISRO Chairman between 1984-94,
often called the “Satellite Man of India,”. He was also Chairman of National Physical Laboratory, Ahmedabad, Nehru Planetorium Bengalotre and Vice President International Aeronautical Association. He was awarded Padma Vibhushan in 2017.
1945 – Madhavrao Scindia, prominent Indian National Congress leader and former union minister. Former Indian (titular) prince of Gwalior state founded by Ranoji and Jiwaji Rao, generals of Maratha Bhonsle kings. They turned politician after independence. Madhavrao was Unio
n Minister of Communication, Civil Aviation under Rajiv Gandhi and PV Narasimha Rao govts. He owned palacious 400 room, Rs. 4,000 crore worth Laxmi Vilas Palace in Gwalior and enormous properties, majority shares in leading textile companies.
1949 -Padma Khanna. Indian actress, known for mainly romanitc, vampire r
oles in Bhojpuri, Hindi films like Johnny Mera Naam, Naag Champa, Haiwan, Balram Pardesia, Dharti Maiya, Nirdosh etc. Acted in about 400 films and won many awards apart from Pama Shri.
She also played important role of Kaikeyi in Ramanand Sagar’s epic serial Ramayana.
1957 – Osama bin Laden, Islamic militant and founder of al-Qaeda. He was known to have organised 9/11 Twin Tower attack demolishing Times Towers and attacking Pentagon. He was killed in Abottabad Pakistan by US drones in May 2011.
1958 – Sharon Stone. American fashion model, actor, producer. Stone has won 11 awards from 42 nominations,
including one Emmy Award, one Golden Globe Award, two MTV Movie Awards, and one Satellite Award. 1970- Omar Abdullah- Incombent Chief Minister of Jammu & Kashmir, grandson of Nationa
l Conference founder Sheikh Abdullah who became Prime Minister and later on chief minister of the state after J&K’s accession to India in 1948. His father Farooq Abdullah was also CM of the State and Union Minister.

You may have known…. When Dr Rajendra Prasad was appointed the
President of India, he only took 50% of his salary, claiming he did not require more than that. Towards the end of his 12-year tenure he only took 25% of his salary. The salary of the President was Rs
