1671 – Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj captured the ‘Salher’ fort from Mughals. It was the highest fort in Maharashtra at 1,567 meters  above sea level. It is also a UNESCO Heritage monument.

1971 – The first One Day International (ODI) cricket match was played between England and Australia.

1998 – Laloo Yadav, RJD president, and BSP chief Kanshi Ram launch a seven-party “Jan Morcha”.

2000 – The World Health Organization (W.H.O.) announced the final stage of the worldwide initiative to eradicate Polio.

2005 – Eris, the largest known dwarf planet in the solar system, is discovered.

2014 – India achieved a milestone with the first successful flight of its own cryogenic engine aboard the GSAT-14 communication satellite launch.

2016 – Fifteen-year-old Mumbai (Kalyan)  schoolboy Pranav Dhanawade becomes the first batsman to ever score 1,000 runs in a single innings in cricket, finishing 1,009 not out. He did it in 327 balls with 59 Sixes and  129 Fours.

2020 – Iran pulls out of the 2015 nuclear deal, will not limit its uranium enrichment.

2025 – Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated a 13-km-long section of the Rapid Rail Transit System between New Ashok Nagar in Delhi and Sahibabad in Uttar Pradesh, connecting the National Capital to Meerut in U.P. Born…. 1592 – Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan. 5th  Mughal king known for his  fight with father king Akbar for. marrying his love Mumtaz Begum, building  her memorial Taj Mahal at Agra and several   reforms during his rule.  He spent a luxurious life but had a very miserable last years under his son  Jehangir’s cruel rule. He spent his last days in prison with limited food and water.

1855 – King C. Gillette, he was an American inventor and manufacturer who invented and manufactured the safety razor with disposable blades.                                                                                         1880 – Barindra Kumar Ghosh, key Indian freedom fighter and journalist, co-founder of Jugantar weekly. Called Barin Ghosh he was a revolutionary thinker and one of the planners of Alipore Conspiracy along with Khudiram Bose and Prafulla Chaki, planning to kill a British magistrate Kingford in 1905. This was to protest Partition of Bengal by the British govt.

1893 – Paramahansa Yogananda, universalist Hindu, great saint, social reformer, writer and litterateur.

1941 – Mansur Ali Khan Pataudi, cricketer (Nawab of Pataudi Jr., Indian batsman & youngest Indian Test Captain). He married popular actor Sharmila Tagore and his kids are also in the cine world.

1955 – Mamata Banerjee, a strong Bengal and national politician. Was in Lok Sabha since 1991 and union minister  in  Congress and NDA  govt. under PM Vajpayee. She established her own political  outfit  TMC in 1988 in Bengal and dethroned 30 years of CPI)M rule in state.  She is now a 3rd time CM of West Bengal.

1986 – Deepika Padukone, Bollywood actor, daughter of legendary Badminton player Prakash Padukone and spouse of popular  actor Ranveer Singh. She started her career with Aishvarya (Kannada) and then Om Shanti Om, Yeh Jawani Hai Diwani,  Billo Barber, Raees, Pathaan, Padmavat, Chernnai Express, Bajirao Mastani, Gehraiyan etc.  She has won 4 Filmfare, 7 IIFA, 5 Producers’ Guild, 10 Screen awards, 7 Zee Cine and 3 Stardust awards   (pic credit-Quora).

RIP….1952 – Nawab of Pataudi Sr, cricketer (polo player and cricketer). He played for British team and  captained Indian cricket team in the early 20th century.

1982 – C. Ramchandra (Chitalkar), famous music director. He gave  evergreen  music tones and direction to numerous Hindi and South films (over 112)  like Albela, Navrang, Anarkali, Patanga, Azad, Paigham etc. He won a National award and was nominated several times for Filmfare but missed the award. Won several other accolades.  Attached song was written by Kavi Pradeep, sung by Lata Mangeshkar and music by CR  on HMV (video credit-saregama music).

You may have known…. India’s wheat productivity is better than that of rice. With 93.51 million tonnes of wheat from 29.65 million hectares, India’s yield rate of 3.15 tonnes per hectare places it 19th out of 41 countries.
