1746 – French expeditionary army occupies Labour  donnais & Dupleix Madras.

1945 – British Parliament   promises India independence.

1948 – Formation of Press Trust of India (PTI) announced under an agreement signed between Reuters and Indian and Eastern Newspapers Society.

1954 – Last Indian troops withdraw from Tibet on Chinese demand.

1984 – National Bureau of Animal Genetic Resources and National Institute of Animal Genetics were set up. These institutes were initially located in the campus of southern regional station of National Dairy Research Institute, Bangalore. They were then shifted to Karnal in July 1985.

1997 – I. K. Gujral and Nawaz Sharif discussed in New York the recent flare-up on Line of Control and firing across the border.The two agreed that such sources of tension should not be allowed.

2001 – University of Roorkee, becomes India’s 7th Indian Institute of Technology, rechristened as IIT Roorkee.

Born….  1866 – H. G. Wells, English sci-fi author.  Called father of Fiction writiing, futurist, who could imagine Time travel, invasion, invisibility,  biological engineering . He write novels viz., Time Machine, The Island of Dr. Moreau,  The Invisible Man,  The War of the Worlds, The Wheels of Chance The Hostory of Mr. Polly  etc. He was nominated for Nobel Prize 4 times, Early in life he was a  socialist and  kept away from the Church and the idea of God  but in the late  years he became an atheist and believer.  (credits-George Charles Beresford )

1939 – Swami Agnivesh, Indian  sanyasi,  philosopher,  politician.  He founded Arya  Sabha, Bandhua Mukti Korcha (Bonded Labour Liberation Front) and  and was a minister of Education in Haryana in 1979. He travelled to UNO, World Bank and other organisations  for  the cause of Socially and economically neglected sections.He also wrote books on  Vedic  and  Hindu  culture.  Was  awarded  by  many  world  organisations.

1955 – Gulshan Grover, veteran  Bollywood  actor, mostly in villain roles. Has acted in about 400  films and also in some Hollywood movie. Has acted in Punjabi, Tamil, Marathi, Kannada  and Italian films. He has won StarDust Indian Festivasl award,  FFTG Awards and New York Indian Festival award.

1980 – Kareena Kapoor, is the grand daughter of  legendary  actor Raj Kapoor and younger daughter of Randheer Kapoor-Babita. She acted in  romantic, comedy roles viz., 3 idiots, Omkara, Jab We Met, Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Chameli, Talaash, Dev, Refugee etc. She has won 6 Filmfare  and sevaral other awards.

1981 – Rimi Sen, Bengali, Hindi and Telugu   films actor. She acted  in  Hangama, Garam Masala, Hera  Pheri, Dhoom  series,  Baghvan,  Golmaal  series  etc.  and some  Reality  Shows  like Bigg Boss.

RIP….1992 – Tarachand Barjatya, veteran  film producer  who  produced and directed many family  films  between 1960s to 1990s. His company Rajshri Pictures did  popular  films   like  Dosti,  Jeevan Mrityu,  Uphaar,  Piya Ka Ghar, Saudagar,  Maine Pyar Kiya, Akhiyon Ke Jharokhe Se, Tapasya, Chittchor,  Saavan Ko Aane Do,  Nadiya Ke  Paar, Friendship etc.  His grandson Sooraj Barjatiya  is also a famous director following  the family tradition successfully.
