1775 – The Treaty of Surat was signed between Raghunath Rao and the British East India Company, initiating the First Anglo-Maratha War.

1886 – The Nightingale Magazine, the first issue of Nurses’ magazine published in Florence Italy, the place of her birth (born May 12, 1820), the nurse Nightingale born to a rich British family decided to serve injured patients in Crimean war and later was called ‘the Lady With The Lamp’.

1899 – Aspirin was patented by Felix Hoffmann.

1902 – Famous Spanish football club  Madrid Club was founded. Later renamed as Real Madrid.

1924 – Ismet Inonu  an army officer formed a government  in Republic of Turkey after famous Mustafa Kamel Ataturk

1944 – During World War II, America as leader of Alliance, bombed Berlin and  Germany had to surrender alongwith Japan, Italy.

1961 – India’s first financial daily The Economic Times  launched in Bombay by The Times of India group.

1961 – 1st London minicabs introduced.                                                                                                             1967 – Svetlana  Stalin youngest daughter of  Russian  dictator  PM  Joseph Stalin, defected to America to seek asylum in the United States. She clandestinely left through Russian Embassy in New Delhi and  denounced the tyrany  of Communism . 1971 – Test debut of Sunil Gavaskar vs West Indies at Port-of-Spain in the 2nd Test. He scored  65 and 67 runs in the two innings but he scored centuries later in the series was instrumental in India winning the Series. He went on to be the Fist Indian to score 10,122 Test runs and 34 Centuries beating Australian cricket legend Don Bradman (29) behind.  He also captained India in  Tests and ODIs.

1983 – First Footbal League  founded in America with first match between The Baltimore Colts and New England  at Tampa Stadium Florida.  Other teams were Los Angeles Raiders, Washington Redskins, Buffalo, Philadelphia etc.

2000 – India and China begin the first ever bilateral security dialogue in Beijing on global and regional issues of mutual interest.

2009 – The Indian Air Force retired the MiG-23 fighter aircraft after three decades of service.

2017 – Wikileaks publishes “Vault 7” CIA documents detailing its hacking and surveillance techniques.

Born…. 1475 – Michaelangelo.  legendary sculptor, painter, archetect and poet of  Italy. Born in Rewpublic of Florence, he is also famous a poet of Renaissance and rival to Leonardo da Vinci. He paqinted many famous and valuable artifects like David, Battle of Cascina.                                                                                                                 1508 – Nasiruddin Muhammad Humayun, the second Mughal Emperor and son of Babur, was born in Kabul.                                                                                                                                1965 – Devki Pandit. Indian classic music composer, singer and actor. Disciple of popular music legend Kishori Amlonkar and Jitendra Abhisheki, she has worked with Hrydaynath Mangershkar, Ustad Rais Khan, Gulzar, Naushad,  Jaidev, Vishal Bhardwaj and Zakir Hussain. She has won several music and film awards like Gaurav Samman, Aditya Birla  Kala Kiran awards etc.

1977 – Jahnavi Kapoor, popular film actres. Daughter of legendary film heroin Sridevi and Boney Kapopr, she is an actress,  made her debut in Dharak in 2018, then Kargil Girl, Student of the Year Good Luck Jerry, Gunjan Saxena etc., and upcoming RC 16 with South actor Ram Charan.   She was nominated to Filmfare award and won Lokmat Stylish award, Pinkvilla  Style Icon awards and other accolades, (pic credit-wallpaperaccess.com).

RIP….   1836 – Devy Crockett. American military office, politician and businessman, who was known as the King of Wild  Frontier,  for his adventures, he represented Tennessee state in the United States House of Representatives and faught for Texas Revolution.                                                                                                            1995 – Arun Tamhankar, the most popular journalist of his times, editor of Manorama Prakashan group   died in Bombay. He also wrote Palasdari, Sarpagandha, Shirtekdi, Tumhi Hi Mrtiyu Talu Shakta  and many  more novels.

2018 – Shammi, (Nargis Rabadi),  the famous Parsi  Bollywood actress of  Indian cinema (1949-1994) . She acted in about 200 films like Ustad Pedro, Dil Apna Aur Preet Parai, Half Ticket, Halaku,  Khuda Gawah, Coolie No. 1, Samaj Ko Badal Dalo, Gopi Kishen, Ham Saath Saath Hain, The Train,  Kudrat, Red Rose, Awara Baap, Swarg etc.She also apperearedd in some TV serials like Dekh Bhai dekh, Shriman Shrimati, Zaban Sambhal Ke,  Filmi Chakker etc. (pic credit-topcount.co).

You may have known….  1. Henry VIII had  staff (slaves), who were called “Grooms of Stool” whose  main  job was to wipe his bottom. During his reign he had four such persons, all of these were later Knighted.   

2.  Built in 1893 by Maharaja Bhupinder Singh of Patiala, the Chail Cricket Ground in Himachal Pradesh sits at 2,444 meters (feet), making it the world’s highest cricket ground.
