1787 – Glass was engraved for the first time in Toulouse, France.
1912 – The first Indian film, Shree Pundalik by Dadasaheb Torne (Phalke) is released in Mumbai. The film, named Shree Pundalik, was approximately a year before Dadasaheb Phalke released a full-length film, Raja Har
ishchandra. Despite controversy, as to which film should be considered as the first Indian film in history, Dadasaheb Torne’s contribution is remembered with great respect and admiration.
1923 – The first patent application on a rotary-dial telephone was submitted in France by Antoine Barnay.

1932 – Hindu-Muslim riots take place in Bombay. 150 are killed or injured. Jinnah – the permanent president of the Muslim League, began to spread the rumours that Muslim minority was in danger under Hindu majority and actively propagated the theory of two separate nations.
1974 – Under project Smiling Buddha, India successfully detonates its First nuclear weapon under Indira Gandhi’s Prime Ministership near Pokhran (Thar Desert) at 8:05 am on Boddha Purnima, code-named Buddha Simles. India became the Sixth Nation of the world to do so. All Super Powers except USSR, banned all exports of all technology for power-generation and other such exports.
1988 – The ten-day Golden Temple siege at Amritsar ends with the surrender of 46 militant Sikhs. Earlier on May 10 about 300 militants had entetered the Golden Temple complex in civilian dress. In cordination with SPG under the command of Brigadier Sushil Nanda, then DGP Punjab, KPS Gill sent a journalist and negotiators to convince
them to leave terrorist activities and join the Indian Security Forces. 46 of them surrendered on May 18, in the prrsence of media. Some of the terrorist were killed during the 10 day seize, thouigh Operation Thunder II was comparatively smooth and peaceful than Op Blue Star in 1984. Later on KPS Gill as DG Punjab, was instrumental in reradicatig terrorism from Punjab. He also wrote 5 books on Punjab’s social life, riots and Islam etc.

2009 – Sri Lankan Civil War: The LTTE are defeated by the Sri Lankan government, ending almost 26 years of fighting between the two sides.
2015 – U.S. President Barack Obama bans the use of certain military equipment by police in the wake of recent deaths of unarmed black men by police officers; the move is meant to help communities see police as protectors rather than as an ‘occupied force’.

Deve Gowda, Indian farmer and politician (JD-S), 11th Prime Minister of India between June 01, 1996 to April 21, 1997 when no political party had clear majority in the Lok Sabha and United Front comprising of Congress and other non-BJP parties annointed him as their leader (for 11 m ponths when Congress withdrew its support, in favour of IK Gujaral). He remained Lok Sabha Member from 1999 to 2019 and later elected to Rajya Sabha in 2020.

2017—Rema Lagoo. Veteran Marathi, Bollywood actress and wife of stage actor Vivek Lagoo. Debuted with legendary Durga Khote directed film Masterji and Singhasan (Marathi). She became popular through TV serials Shriman Shrimati and Tu Tu Mein. She played character roles in QSQT, Rihaee, Maine POyar Kiya, Gumrah, Saajan, Ham Aapke Hain Kaun etc. She got Filmfare nominations and Maharashtra State Film awards.
You May Have Known…… The India-Pakistan World Cup semi-final match on March 30, 2011 at IS Bindra Stadiium, Mohali drew 150 million TV viewers worldwide. Sachin was adjudged Man of the Match for his 85 runs. India won by 29 runs.
