1620 – The first corn (maize) found in the U.S. by British settlers was discovered in Provincetown, by sixteen desperately hungry Pilgrims at a place they named Corn Hill.

1796 – Inventor and engineer Marc Brunel was issued his first U.S. patent for his method of “Ruling Books and Paper.”

1875 – The first U.S. patent for a dental mallet, or “Electro-magnetic Dental Pluggers” was issued to William G.A. Bonwill of Philadelphia. His tooth-filling device was used to drive gold into a tooth cavity.

1835 – Rani Lakshmibai of Jhansi. She was named Manikarnika and was called ‘Manu’. (Correct date could be 16th or 19th Nov).

1877 – Ardaseer Cursetjee Wadia, professor, pioneer and innovator. He was the first Indian who was elected as a Fellow of the Royal Society, London. He introduced lighting by gas and was the first to build “INDUS”, a steam-ship in India in 1833. He also introduced sewing machine, photography and electro-plating.

1917 – Chitragupt, film score composer who gave memorable music for films like Kali Topi Lal Rumal, Bhabhi, Ganga ki Lehren, Barkha, Mein Chup Rahungi etc.

1927 – Shreeram Lagoo, Bollywood actor.

1963 – Meenakshi Seshadri, Bollywood actor, who acted in popular films like Hero, Damini, Ghatak, Ghayal, Ghar Ho To Aisa etc.

1973 – Pullela Gopichand, Badminton player and Saina Nehwal’s coach.

1985 – Aditya Roy Kapoor, Bollywood actor.
