New Delhi, Sep 15 (UNI) Trinamool Congress MP Arpita Ghosh, who resigned as Rajya Sabha member, has asked for a role in the party in West Bengal in a letter to party national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee.
Ghosh, in the letter, said she felt she would be in a better position to achieve her goals by resigning from the Rajya Sabha and working directly in Bengal.
“After our huge victory in the May 2021 elections I’ve been giving some serious thought about how I should continue to play a role in our party. I would be more interested if I could be given a role to work for the party and in the state of West Bengal,” she said in her letter.
“My goal is clear, I wish to continue to serve people of Bengal under the leadership of hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee,” she added.
Her resignation has been accepted by the Chairman of the House, a bulletin of the Rajya Sabha announced on Wednesday.
‘Ms. Arpita Ghosh, an elected Member of the Council of States (Rajya Sabha), representing the State of West Bengal, resigned her seat in the Rajya Sabha and her resignation has been accepted by the Chairman, Rajya Sabha w.e.f. the 15th September, 2021,” the notification said.
Ghosh was among the MPs suspended during the ruckus in Rajya Sabha on the last day of the Monsoon Session of Parliament. The upper house had witnessed ugly scenes after marshals were called to control protesting MPs, resulting in a scuffle and both MPs and marshals getting injured.
She became a Rajya Sabha MP from West Bengal in 2020, and earlier served as the an MP in the 16th Lok Sabha for Balurghat of West Bengal.
