TMC: Fast track investigation without fast-track justice is smokescreen to fool Goans
Panaji: The Goa Trinamool Congress on Friday condemned the BJP-led government for failing to release the terms of reference of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) constituted to probe alleged land grabbing cases in the state.
‘‘Despite being in control of the entire administration, all the illegalities were happening right under the BJP government’s nose. How does appointing 22 officers from the administration solve the problem? The crimes were still happening when these 22 members were present in the administration,’ TMC leader Trajano D’Mello told reporters in the city.
Slamming Chief Minister Pramod Sawant for his recent remark, D’Mello said, ‘‘Either the Chief Minister is confused or he is trying to fool the people. Fast track investigation without fast-track justice is nothing but a smokescreen meant to fool the people of Goa.’’
Holding the BJP government accountable Trajano D’Mello questioned, ’Why have they failed to release terms of reference? Is the investigation time bound?’
Highlighting the public’s poor perception of police, he said, ”How can a Superintendent of Police investigate cases in a just manner when many of his juniors have failed their responsibilities in the past.’’
”We have many FIRs and complaints of illegal land grabbing still pending to be investigated, Police’s inaction has strengthened the fraudsters further,” he alleged.
Reiterating the party’s demand D’Mello asserted, ‘‘SIT should function under the chairmanship of a judge and the registrar must be empowered through a legislation to declare the fraudulent sale deeds as null and void.” (UNI)
