Timings Changed at Two Chandigarh Government Hospitals
OPD now from 7 AM; blood sample hours revised
Chandigarh : In a move aimed at improving healthcare services and managing patient flow efficiently, the administration of Chandigarh has revised the working hours of two major government hospitals in the city. The new timings will come into effect immediately and will apply to both OPD registration and diagnostic services like blood sample collection. As per the latest update, OPD registration at the two government hospitals — Government Multi-Specialty Hospital (GMSH), Sector 16, and Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Sector 32 — will now begin at 7:00 AM. This change is intended to reduce overcrowding during peak hours and provide earlier medical attention to patients who often arrive early in the morning.
Hospital authorities have also made changes to the timing of blood sample collection. Blood tests, which were earlier conducted between 8:00 AM and 11:00 AM, will now start from 7:30 AM and continue until 10:30 AM. The administration believes that shifting these timings will help laboratories process samples more efficiently and deliver test reports on time. Health officials said the changes were introduced after receiving feedback from patients and hospital staff, many of whom reported delays due to overcrowded counters and long queues. The revised hours are expected to streamline services and allow doctors more time for consultation and follow-ups.
Patients visiting the hospitals for routine check-ups, diagnostic tests, or specialist consultations have been advised to arrive according to the new schedule. Information boards have been updated at both hospitals, and announcements are being made to inform the public about the changes. The health department also mentioned that these revised timings are part of a broader initiative to modernize public health facilities and improve patient satisfaction. With rising patient footfall post-COVID, hospitals have been under pressure to enhance operational efficiency without compromising service quality. Residents of Chandigarh have welcomed the decision, especially elderly patients and working professionals who often seek early appointments. The new schedule is expected to ease the overall burden on hospital infrastructure and reduce wait times. Authorities have assured that they will monitor the impact of the revised timings closely and make further adjustments if required, ensuring that healthcare delivery in the city remains patient-friendly and responsive.
