Tesla to Launch 8 Charging Hubs in India
One station can charge 252 cars at once; Tata, Mahindra to compete…..
India : Tesla is set to deepen its footprint in India by establishing 8 high-capacity charging stations across major cities, marking a major step toward electric mobility. Each of these upcoming supercharging hubs will have the ability to charge up to 252 electric vehicles simultaneously, a capacity India hasn’t seen before.
This aggressive infrastructure rollout comes on the heels of Tesla launching its Model Y in the country. With this move, Tesla aims to address one of the biggest challenges for EV adoption in India — a robust and reliable charging network.
According to sources, the stations will be strategically positioned in metro hubs like Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai, Pune, Ahmedabad, and Jaipur, ensuring pan-India access for Tesla users. This development is also expected to serve as a major push for highway-based long-distance EV travel.
However, Tesla’s dominance won’t go unchallenged. Indian automakers Tata Motors and Mahindra are already deep into the EV space. Tata, with its Nexon EV and expanding Tata Power EV network, and Mahindra with its upcoming XUV models, will be Tesla’s direct rivals not just in sales, but also in charging station access and infrastructure development.
Tesla’s India-specific strategy involves customized software integration, charging payment systems tailored to Indian wallets, and even collaborations with Indian energy providers for green power usage.
With India pushing hard for EV adoption under its FAME-II and National Electric Mobility Mission, Tesla’s move might be perfectly timed. The upcoming 8 stations could be the turning point in making premium electric driving a reality for thousands of Indians.
