June tea production falls 3.7% to 137.85 million kg.

In the month of June, total tea production was down 3.7% to 137.85 million kilogrammes. In terms of regions, North India produced 109.70 million kilogrammes during the month, while South India’s output volumes were 28.15 million kilogrammes.

KOLKATA: This year’s June saw a decrease in tea production, falling to 137.85 million kilogrammes from 143.12 million kilogrammes in the corresponding month of 2022.

The volume of tea production is expected to decline by about 3.7% in June 2023, according to preliminary data from the Tea Board.

In terms of production volume for the month, North India produced 109.70 million kilogrammes, while South India produced 28.15 million kilogrammes.

Assam produced 63.51 million kilogrammes in North India in June 2023 compared to the state’s 75.16 million kilogrammes in the same month of the previous comparable period.

West Bengal, the other significant producer in North India, produced somewhat more volume in June of this year (42.6 million kilogrammes) than it did in the corresponding month of 2023 (40.42 million kilogrammes).

According to sources at the Indian Tea Association (ITA), the decrease in output levels was brought on by unfavourable weather and pest infestations in the gardens.
