Surrogacy Scam Shocks Hyderabad, 10 Arrested
DNA test exposes fertility racket; couple devastated after discovering child isn’t theirs….
Hyderabad In a heart-wrenching case that has shaken Hyderabad, a couple’s dream of becoming parents turned into a nightmare when a DNA test revealed that the child born through surrogacy was not biologically related to them. The shocking revelation has brought to light a massive illegal surrogacy racket being run under the garb of a fertility center.
The couple, who had been struggling with infertility for years, approached a fertility clinic in Hyderabad last year and agreed to a surrogacy arrangement, paying a staggering ₹35 lakh. The center assured them of legal procedures and transparency throughout the process. Everything appeared normal until the child was born. But doubts began to creep in after certain irregularities surfaced during routine medical checks. Haunted by suspicion, the couple decided to go ahead with a DNA test — only to find out that the child wasn’t theirs. The results shattered their world.
Immediately after this devastating discovery, the couple lodged a police complaint. Acting swiftly, the Hyderabad police launched an investigation and uncovered a major racket operating under the disguise of a legitimate fertility clinic. The racket was allegedly orchestrated by a group of individuals, including medical professionals and coordinators who manipulated records, forged documents, and assigned surrogate children to unsuspecting couples without matching their genetic material.
According to the police, the racket involved implanting embryos of different genetic parents and falsifying records to make it appear as though the intended couple were the biological parents. In some cases, even surrogate mothers were unaware of the real origin of the embryos they were carrying.
Ten individuals, including the head doctor of the clinic, were arrested in connection with the case. Authorities have also seized critical documents, fake surrogacy contracts, and forged medical records from the clinic premises. Police are now expanding their probe to determine how many other families may have been duped in a similar manner.
The couple at the center of this tragedy has appealed for justice, urging authorities to implement stricter oversight on fertility clinics and to establish a centralised monitoring body to regulate surrogacy processes in the country.
This case has reignited debates around the need for stringent regulations and transparency in the surrogacy and fertility industry in India. Experts are calling for urgent legislative action to ensure that desperate couples looking for parenthood through surrogacy are not exploited emotionally and financially. The Human Rights Commission has also taken cognizance of the matter and sought a detailed report from the concerned authorities.
As investigations continue, the couple remains hopeful that their fight for justice will prevent others from facing such betrayal in the future. For now, the case stands as a grim reminder that even the most advanced medical solutions can become dangerous weapons in the hands of the unethical.
