Haryana : In a strong show of solidarity, Congress General Secretary and Rajya Sabha MP Randeep Singh Surjewala visited Hisar on Saturday to support protesting students at Haryana Agricultural University. The students have been demonstrating against alleged police brutality that took place on campus during a recent agitation. Surjewala met with the injured students, interacted with those staging the protest, and assured them of full support from the Congress party.

Speaking to the media during his visit, Surjewala condemned the state government’s handling of the situation and accused it of suppressing student voices through force. He described the incident as “state-sponsored violence” and demanded an immediate judicial inquiry into the matter. According to student leaders, several students were injured when police intervened to break up a peaceful protest related to academic and hostel grievances.

Surjewala questioned why the government resorted to such heavy-handed tactics instead of engaging in dialogue with the students. He said, “When young minds raise their voices for genuine concerns, the government should listen, not lathi-charge them. What happened in Hisar is a blot on democracy and a shame for the education system.” He also criticized the administration for not sending any official to meet the students or acknowledge their demands.

The protesting students, many of whom have been sitting on dharna for days, raised slogans demanding justice and reforms within the university administration. They called for better hostel conditions, transparent fee structures, and accountability from the university authorities. Surjewala assured them that their voices would be raised in Parliament and that the Congress party would stand with them until justice is delivered.

The incident has sparked widespread outrage on social media, with student unions from across the country expressing support and calling for state-wide demonstrations in solidarity. Meanwhile, the state government has remained largely silent on the issue, fueling further criticism from opposition parties.

The students have vowed to continue their protest until their demands are addressed, and pressure is mounting on the state administration to act swiftly and responsibly. The episode highlights the increasing tension between youth movements and government authorities in India, particularly in the realm of education and civil rights.
