Stalin places 4 key demands, including NEET exemption to PM, seek centre’s approvals
Chennai: Urging Prime Minister Narendra Modi to increase the Centre’s share to developing state like Tamil Nadu, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin today placed four key demands concerning the State before him, including exemption from NEET, retrieve Katchatheevu (an islet ceded to Sri Lanka) that will restore the fishing rights of the fishermen, release of pending GST dues and make Tamil as the official language in Madras High court and Union Government offices.
In his address at an official function attended by the Prime Minister, the Chief Mini later said TN contributes 9.29 pc to GDP, 6 pc in direct tax, 8.4 pc in import, 8.4 pc in textiles, 19.4 pc in import of cars import, 33 in import of leather.
However, the financial allocation from Union to State is just 1.23 per cent he said and urged the Centre to increase the allocation to TN in line with its development.
By increasing the allocation alone will be a true example of cooperative federalism, he added. “Let’s unite to implement better projects to enhance welfare of the people”, Stalin outlining the four key demands and urging the Prime Minister to accord the Centre’s sanction for the same. He said Tamil Nadu is one of the most advanced states of our Country. “I request you to extend fullest cooperation and support to the State”, he added. “The Union Government should increase its share in development to states. Only then it become Union of States,” he said.
“Compared to other states, the development of TN is very unique. This doesn’t depend on economic growth alone. Our state is pioneer in social justice, equality and women empowerment. This is what we call Dravidian model”, Stalin said, adding, all the projects inaugurated by Mr. Modi are important for the State’s development and growth. (UNI)
