Sr. Delhi Akali leader MS Sirsa joins BJP
New Delhi, Dec.01, NewsonRadar Bureau: Akali Dal leader Manjinder Singh Sirsa joined BJP in the presence of Union home minister Amit Shah, BJP president J P Nadda and Union minister Dharmendra Pradhan at the BJP headquarters in New Delhi on Wednesday.
As is well-known Akali Dal had been opposing the 3 Krishi Kanoons passed by Parliament in September 2020, but repealed by the PM Modi recently due to long protests by the farmers. (though Akali Dal minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal was part of the Central cabinet but resigned later fearing election losses in the forthcoming state polls).
Sirsa is a popular Sikh leader of Delhi and was the incumbent President of Delhi Sikh Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee before he joined the Bhartiya Janata Party today.
After joining the ruling party at the Centre, he told media persons, “There are several issues concerning the Sikh community which are unresolved for the past 70 years. In the national capital, Baba Banda Singh Bahadurji was martyred…But we couldn’t even get one university for the Sikh community in the past 70 years due to our weak leadership… What’s the point if the concerns of the community, which fights on the borders, are not addressed for years?”.
Akali Dal spokesman Daljit Singh Cheema said the BJP poached the Akali leader using pressure tactics by involving him in false cases. “Sirsa has been fighting for issues related to the Sikhs under difficult circumstances but our party feels sad that he succumbed to the pressure this time.” He assured media, other leaders like HS Kalka and others are solidly with the Delhi unit of Akali Dal.
