Rear seat belt issue detected in five models; parts to be replaced for free..
New Delhi : Skoda and Volkswagen have issued a recall for a total of 47,285 vehicles in India due to a defect identified in the rear seat belt assembly. The recall affects five specific models across both brands, and the companies have assured that the faulty components will be replaced free of charge.
The affected models include Skoda Slavia and Kushaq, and Volkswagen Taigun, Virtus, and Tiguan. According to the official statements released by both manufacturers, the issue is related to the retractor mechanism of the rear seat belts, which may not function as intended under certain conditions. This defect could potentially compromise passenger safety during sudden braking or collisions.
Customers who own any of the affected models are advised to visit their nearest authorized service center to have their vehicles inspected. The inspection and necessary part replacements will be carried out at no cost to the customer. The process is expected to be swift, and the companies have committed to minimizing inconvenience.
Both Skoda and Volkswagen emphasized that this is a voluntary recall and part of their commitment to passenger safety and product responsibility. They are also proactively contacting vehicle owners through official communication channels including SMS, email, and calls, to inform them about the issue and schedule service appointments.
Industry experts have noted that although recalls often create concern among consumers, they are also a sign of responsible corporate behavior, especially when initiated without regulatory pressure. In this case, both companies identified the fault internally and took swift action to address the issue.
Owners can also check whether their vehicle is part of the recall by entering their vehicle identification number (VIN) on the official websites of Skoda and Volkswagen India. The companies have set up dedicated customer support teams to assist with queries related to the recall process.
This development comes at a time when both brands are trying to strengthen their presence in the competitive Indian automotive market. Ensuring customer trust through transparent and proactive measures is likely to play a key role in maintaining brand loyalty.
