Sikkim Strength-lifters bag 4 Gold, 5 Silver, 7 Bronzes at National Champs, Jabalpur

Gangtok, May 18: Strength-lifters of Sikkim have returned home Tuesday night with 16 Medals from Madhya Pradesh. The Strength-lifting Association of Sikkim has made the state proud by winning 4 Gold medals. “Altogether 12 of us had represented Sikkim at Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh in the 32nd National Strength-lifting & Incline Bench Press Championship, which was held from 5th to 8th May 2022. Our players got not only 16 medals but also the ‘Best Disciplined Team’ trophy. Out of 7 girls 6 got medals,” said Pema Dorjee, Coach cum Director of the Association, here. He also bagged a Gold medal at the Seniors Championship, already having a wonderful record of winning 3 International and 5 National medals, earlier. ‘Pahalman Limbu won 2 Gold Medals, and Sonam Norzang Bhutia won 1 Gold Medal, while I myself bagged a Gold Medal at Ranital Sports Complex, Jabalpur,’ added PD Bhutia. Those who secured Silver Medals, include Lakpa Sherpa 2 medals, Seema Pradhan 1 Silver, M. Mazhi 1Silver medal and Thinlay Ongmu Bhutia 1 Silver Medal. 7 Bronze medals were also bagged. Winning in the Sport during such a bad scorching heat in Jabalpur is really commendable, said the Coach Pema Dorjee Bhutia. Allen Targain, Working President, Sikkim Strength-lifting Association, said altogether more than 350 Strength Lifters participated in the National Championship, Jabalpur, hosted by MP Strength Lifting Association. Pema D Bhutia joined by Allen Targain thanked Chief Patron of their State Association Minister for Forest Karma Loday. Rahul Strength-lifting senior fraternity and Vinay Deria have also been thanked for their cooperation while travelling back home, booking flight tickets on their own. Pema said he was hoping to get his team selected for Mega World Strength-lifting Championship Kyrgyzstan, to be held from 3rd to 15th September’2022. (UNI)
