Shimla Congress holds fast at Ridge over ‘MGNREGA bachao’ campaign

Shimla: On the call of the All India Congress Committee, leaders and workers of the Shimla district unit of the Congress on Saturday observed a fast at the Ridge, in front of the statue of Mahatma Gandhi, under the ‘MGNREGA Bachao Sangram’. The protest was held against the Centre’s decision to change the name of MGNREGA and what the party described as efforts to weaken the employment guarantee scheme. Urban district president Inderjit Singh, former MLA Adarsh Sood, Naresh Chauhan, Zainab Chandel, Anand Kaushal, Amit Bharmouri, Deepak Rathore, Rupesh Kanwal, Ved Prakash Thakur, Anita Thakur, Bhupinder Kanwar, Satyajeet Negi, Diwakar Dev Sharma, along with several municipal councillors, took part in the protest. A large number of party workers, including Kunal Chauhan, Amandeep, Atul Thakur, Aman, Rohit Kashyap, Brinda Singh, R.P. Singh, Uma Verma, Gharu, Babli, Aman, Nitin Deshta and Hem Raj Thakur, were also present and expressed their opposition to the alleged dilution of the rural employment scheme.
