Sharad Pawar hails Bhagwat’s ‘varna and jaati’ statement

Nagpur: Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) supremo Sharad Pawar on Saturday hailed RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat’s statement regarding “varna and jaati” and added that such statements need to be implemented in actual behavior, it should not be just lip service.
Pertinently, on Friday, at a book release function in Nagpur, RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat said the concept like “Varna(colours) and Jaati (caste)” should be utterly discarded and that everything that causes discrimination should go out lock, stock and barrel.
The RSS chief also said the previous generations had made mistakes everywhere and India was no exception. However, one should not hesitate to accept the blunders made by the ancestors.
Reacting to this, Sharad Pawar, who was in Nagpur on Saturday, welcomed the statement and said such thoughts need to be practised in actual behavior and it should not just remain as lip service.
The NCP chief also pointed out that a large section of society suffered due to such discrimination in the country and those who were responsible for such discrimination are realising it must be done away with, which is a good thing.
He also said just apologizing to them, will not do. Rather it depends upon how we actually behave with these sections of society. (UNI)
