Severe Heatwave Grips Punjab, Chandigarh; Rain and Hail Likely From May 28

Punjab and Chandigarh are reeling under intense heat as the Meteorological Centre in Chandigarh has issued a severe heatwave alert for Wednesday. However, weather conditions are expected to change from May 28 onward, bringing chances of rain and hailstorms across the region.
According to the weather department, Punjab witnessed completely dry weather during the last 24 hours. Bathinda recorded the highest temperature in the state at 45.8 degrees Celsius.
The department has also predicted that the southwest monsoon is likely to reach Punjab between June 28 and July 5, which is close to the state’s normal monsoon arrival date of June 30.
Meanwhile, a fresh western disturbance is expected to become active over Punjab from Thursday. Due to its impact, weather conditions are likely to remain unstable for four days, with rain and strong winds expected in several districts.
The weather is predicted to worsen particularly on Thursday and Friday, when thunderstorms with wind speeds of 60 to 70 kmph, along with hailstorms and rainfall, may occur in many areas.
