Seven-story building collapses in Shimla, no injury reported
Shimla, Sep 30 (UNI) A seven-story building collapsed at Ghoda Chowki near Hali Palace in Shimla on Thursday evening owing to heavy rainfall.
No loss of lives was reported. As a precautionary measure, adjacent buildings have also been evacuated.
Police source said that the ill-fated building was vacated soon after its foundation started caving in due to heavy rainfall in the area yesterday itself.
State Emergency Operation Center Spokesperson Mr Sudhesh Mokata said that building was owned by the owner of Share Punjab Restaurant in Kachighati.
The video of the collapse has been gone viral on the Internet.
The belongings of the building occupants have also destroyed in the incident.
The eyewitnesses said before the collapse, the window pans of the building started shattering but fortunately there was no one inside it.
A building situated next to it also damaged due to the incident. Officials of district administration, fire, home guard and police rushed to the spot.
During the monsoon season, as many as 58 Pucca and 126 Kaccha houses and 741 cow sheds have been damaged due to the rainfall while 125 pucca and 144 Kaccha houses were partly damaged in the state, the spokesperson added.
