Seven more Tamil migrants from Sri Lanka arrive in TN seeking refuge
Rameswaram: Seven more Sri Lankan Tamils, including three children who fled the economic crisis-hit Island nation, arrived in Tamil Nadu on Friday seeking asylum.
Official sources said the Tamil refugees – comprising two families, hailing from Jaffna and Trincomalee districts reached the Arichalmunai seashore in Rameswaram clandestinely in a hired boat.
After being questioned by the Marine and Tamil Nadu Q branch cops, they were accommodated at the Mandapam refugees’ camp.
With the arrival of seven Sri Lankan Tamils, the total number of refugees who had reached Tamil Nadu from the Island nation had risen to 90 in the last few weeks, the sources added. (UNI)
