MUMBAI: On Saturday, the search and rescue effort was resumed in the Irshalwadi hamlet in Maharashtra’s Raigad district, where a catastrophic landslip claimed the lives of at least 22 people. Officials said 86 locals are still unaccounted for.
On Wednesday night, a landslip happened in the tribal village, which is located on a hillside in the Khalapur tehsil and is around 80 km from Mumbai.
Six more victims were found on Friday, bringing the death toll up to 22, from 16 as of Thursday night.
Nine men, 10 women, and 4 kids were among the deceased.
According to officials, the incident claimed the lives of nine family members.
A police officer reported that “the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and other government agencies resumed the search and rescue operation on Saturday morning for the third day.”
Due to severe rains, the search operation was put on hold around 6 p.m. on Friday, an NDRF officer stated.
“Four NDRF teams and other agencies resumed the operation this morning,” he stated.
