In the fiscal year 2022–2023, sales of pharmaceuticals from India’s Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Kendras (PMBJKs) increased 38% to Rs 1236.17 crore.

Sales of Rs 893.56 crore were made by PMBJKs during the fiscal year 2021–2022.

The Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilisers reported that as of June 30th, 9512 PMBJKs had been established nationwide.

According to Bhagwanth Khuba, the Union Minister of State for Chemicals and Fertilisers, the government has set a goal to open 10,000 PMBJKs by March 2024.

With 1349, Uttar Pradesh has the most PMBJKs, followed by Karnataka (1084), Kerala (979), and Tamil Nadu (910).

The programme, which went into effect in November 2008, provides 1759 medications and 280 surgical tools at reasonable costs.

According to Khuba, the scheme has been given a budget of Rs 115 crore for the 2023–24 fiscal year, of which Rs 28.54 crore has been allotted and Rs 17.61 crore has been used as of June 30.

According to the minister, PMBJK owners are eligible for incentives of up to Rs 5 lakh at 15% of their monthly purchases, with a monthly cap of Rs 15,000.

He continued, “Further, a one-time incentive of Rs 2 lakh is provided to the PMBJKs opened in North-Eastern states, Himalayan areas, island territories, and areas mentioned as aspirational districts by NITI Aayog or opened by women entrepreneurs, ex-servicemen, Divyang, SC & ST, or opened in these regions by these groups.”
