Russian Journalist Ovsyannikova charged with defaming country’s armed forces
Moscow: Marina Ovsyannikova, a former journalist with Russian broadcaster Channel One, was charged on Wednesday in Moscow with spreading false information about Russian armed forces, her lawyer told Sputnik.
“She was charged under Para. D Sec. 2 Art. 207.3 of the Russian Criminal Code, which carries a punishment of up to 10 years in jail… The probe was launched following a picket on the Sofia Embankment in Moscow,” Dmitry Zakhvatov said.
Ovsyannikova made headlines in March after she appeared live on television with a pacifist poster that criticized the conflict in Ukraine. She was promptly fired from Channel One and briefly hired by the German newspaper Welt’s office in Moscow. She staged a one-person picket on the embankment in July. (UNI/SPUTNIK)
