Rs 83 lakh valued gold seized, one held at Kannur Int’l Airport
Kannur: In a joint operation of Air Customs and DRI officials, 1634 grams of gold valued around Rs 83 lakhs was seized from a passenger who arrived at Kannur International Airport from Muscat on a GoAir flight, on Monday.
Customs Assistant Commissioner E V Sivaraman-led team detained Muhammed Sabir of Koorachundu in Kozhikode district in this connection.
The smuggled gold was concealed in an emergency lamp as 14 gold plates.
He was arrested and enlarged on bail. Further investigation is underway, customs Superintendent Baby VP said.
In separate operations by Air Customs and Kerala police, 1676 grams of gold valued around Rs 77 lakhs was seized from two passengers who arrived at Karipur International Airport from Dubai on different flights on Monday.
