Rs 288 cr, jewelry recovered from Kanpur trader’s premises, searches continue

Kannauj, Dec 26: Fresh recoveries have been made by the team of Director General of GST Intelligence (DGGI) during searches at the premises of Kanpur based Itra trader Piyush Jain here on Sunday.
Sources said that the DGGI team recovered bars of 250 kilogram silver, 25 kg gold along with cash stashed in gunny bags said to be eight to nine in number from the ancestral house of Piyush Jain in Chippti locality here. Cash recovered from the basement is being estimated around 103 crore.
It may be noted that the DGGI team recovered Rs 179 crore from Kanpur residence of the trader, located in Juhi area. The DGGI team has been searching the houses, office and factory from the last three days.
Sources said that the team also searched two more houses of Piyush Jain after breaking the locks. So far the team has recovered around 288 crore besides, silver and gold. Though no official statement has been made in this regard.
Cash recovery from the ancestral house the Itra trader is continuing. Total 36 officers are involved in the search and cash has been recovered after breaking the almirahs and lockers. The team has also recovered a few diaries and bills, mentioning sale and purchase of raw material from different companies. The team will contact these companies and verify the information provided in the diaries and bills.
It is being suspected that cash and jewellery might be hidden behind the walls for which officials of Archaeological Survey of India have been contacted.
