Revolt against J&K PCC Chief, more Congress leaders resign from party posts

Jammu, Nov 17 (UNI) Days after several senior leaders including former ministers submitted their resignations from the prominent party positions to the AICC president Sonia Gandhi, many more leaders resigned from the prominent positions on Saturday.
In a letter sent to Sonia Gandhi, the leaders have alleged that under the presidentship of G A Mir, Congress is heading towards disastrous situation and more than 200 top Congress leaders, including former Minister, MLAs, MLCs, PCC office bearers, District Presidents and AICC Members have resigned from the party till date and have joined other parties, they alleged.
“All elections one after another may be Parliament, DDC, BDC, Panchyats and Urban local bodies Congress lost and could not form a single council in the state. Even G A Mir himself lost the Parliamentary seat and his son in the DDC despite being a combined PAGD candidate in his home constituency,” read the letter.
The political development came ahead amid speculations that Assembly elections in Jammu Kashmir Union Territory may soon be announced.
Following the footsteps of the senior leaders having allegiance to former Chief Minister and veteran stalwart Ghulam Nabi Azad, have also resigned from respective party positions expressing resentment over incumbent JKPCC president Ghulam Ahmed Mir in protest against not providing them opportunity of their involvement in the party affairs.
Those who have resigned include PCC members, Ex District Congress Committee Vice President, Ramban, Councillors, Minority Cell head, General Secretary Ramban and Block President, Ramban.
“Yes, we have resigned from prominent posts of the party,” Arun Singh Chib, PCC member and Ex DCC President here confirmed to UNI.
He said that the letter has been addressed to Sonia Gandhi and Rajni Patil, AICC in charge Secretary for J&K for further action.
Earlier on Nov 17, prominent among those, who have submitted the resignation, included G M Saroori, Jugal Kishore Sharma, Waqar Rasool, Dr Manohar Lal Sharma, Ghulam Nabi Monga, Naresh Gupta, Subash Gupta, Amin Bhat, Anwar Bhat and Inayat Ali.
“All these are loyalists to Ghulam Nabi Azad,” party sources said, adding that barring former Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand, almost all senior functionaries have submitted their resignations from their respective party positions.
