Red Alert in Kapurthala as Beas River Hits 2.35 Lakh Cusecs
Two houses collapse amid heavy rains…..
Kapurthala : A fresh spell of continuous rain since Saturday night has caused a dramatic rise in the Beas river water level, prompting the Kapurthala district administration to issue a red alert. The water level reached 2.35 lakh cusecs on Sunday, up from 2.17 lakh cusecs on Saturday, amid incessant rainfall in the upper hill regions.
The situation turned critical as many weakened houses collapsed due to the downpour and strong river currents. Two houses fell at Rampur Gaura village early Sunday morning following heavy rain.
Evacuation efforts are ongoing as several residents refuse to leave their homes to safeguard their belongings. Police and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams are using boats and loudspeakers to reach families in remote areas.
So far, 35,480 acres of land in Kapurthala have been inundated. Officials warn that this figure may rise as rains continue.
Deputy Commissioner Amit Kumar Panchal has appealed to residents in low-lying areas to relocate immediately to safer places. The Army, SDRF, and local volunteers are actively involved in evacuations and relief work.
