Rapid surge of COVID-19 cases, hospitalisation not needed : Dr. Purohit

New Delhi/Bhopal: There is a rapid surge of covid-19 cases in the country . There is yet nothing much to worry about these cases as they are mild in nature and do not need hospitalisation, said Dr Naresh Purohit- Senior Epidemiologist.
Advisor- National Communicable Disease Control Programme – Dr Purohit stated that the surge is driven by two new Omicron sub-variants, LF.7 and NB.1.8, while the JN.1 strain remains dominant. These new variants are classified by WHO as “Variants Under Monitoring,” indicating ongoing observation but no immediate cause for concern.
” According to the latest data of the ministry of health, there is an alarming rise in infective cases of covid cases is the state of Kerala followed by Maharashtra, Delhi and Gujarat,” he informed. The numbers have crossed 3,400 cases in India till Saturday evening.
He said that The World Health Organization (WHO) is closely monitoring the spread of new virus variants. Preliminary observations indicate that they are potentially high contagiousness. However, at the moment, no significant increase in disease severity has been observed.
“Symptoms are similar to flu and earlier Omicron strains, including sore throat, fatigue, mild cough, and fever, with most patients recovering at home, “he observed
He urged the citizens not to panic and strictly observe hygiene rules.
