Rapid Firing in Kurukshetra Injures Young Man
Gunmen in three cars spark fear; liquor trade dispute suspected…..
Haryana : A wave of fear swept through a residential locality in Kurukshetra, Haryana, after a group of armed assailants opened fire in broad daylight, leaving a young man injured. The attack, which witnesses described as “chaotic and terrifying,” is suspected to be linked to an ongoing dispute among liquor contractors in the area.
According to police and eyewitness accounts, the incident unfolded when three cars carrying multiple armed men drove into the locality. Without warning, the assailants began firing indiscriminately, sending residents running for cover. Bullets reportedly struck nearby walls and vehicles, shattering windows and leaving deep marks on the street.
One young man, whose identity has not been officially disclosed, was hit by a bullet during the barrage. Locals rushed him to a nearby hospital, where doctors have confirmed that he is out of danger but remains under observation.
“It was like a scene from a movie—loud gunshots, people screaming, and everyone trying to hide inside their homes,” said one resident, still visibly shaken. “We have never experienced such violence in our area.”
Preliminary investigations suggest that the firing may be linked to a long-standing rivalry between groups involved in the liquor business. Police sources said the victim may not have been the intended target, raising concerns about the recklessness of the attackers and the risk posed to innocent bystanders.
Officers have recovered several empty cartridges from the scene and are reviewing CCTV footage from the locality to identify the attackers and trace their vehicles. A senior police official confirmed that raids are being conducted in multiple locations. “We have strong leads on the suspects and will arrest them soon. This kind of lawlessness will not be tolerated,” he said.
The sudden outbreak of violence has left residents deeply unsettled. Many families have expressed fear of letting their children play outside and worry that the dispute could lead to further clashes.
Local shopkeepers also reported closing their businesses early after hearing the gunfire. “When bullets are flying, no one wants to risk stepping outside. It’s bad for business, but safety comes first,” said a shop owner whose store is located just meters from the scene.
Community leaders have urged the administration to step up police patrols in sensitive areas and take strict action against illegal arms possession. The incident has also reignited debates about the influence and power of liquor contractors in Haryana, a business often marred by intense competition and violent rivalries.
For now, the streets where the firing occurred remain quiet, but the lingering smell of gunpowder and the sight of bullet holes serve as stark reminders of the violence that unfolded. Residents say they are hoping for quick justice, but many remain on edge, unsure when the next act of retaliation might come.
